Location

The event takes place on the Main Road in Tawa, in the Main Shopping Area (between the roundabout on the intersection of the Main Road/ Cambridge Street/ Lyndhurst Road and the roundabout on the intersection of the Main Road and Surrey Street).

Parking

There is plenty of on street parking in the streets surrounding the event. There is also car parking available behind the Tawa Community Centre in Cambridge Street and beside New World in Oxford Street.

Event Information

The Event Information Caravan will be located in the middle of the event - on the corner of the Main Road and Essex Street. Here you’ll find information about the event and will be where lost children and property can be collected.

First Aid

If you need first aid, find your way to the event caravan or ask one of the Mexted Motors Spring into Tawa volunteers (in a high-vis vest) for help.

Toilets

Portable toilets will be available within the festival area (look for signage on the day). There are also public toilets outside the Tawa Library.

ATM

There are three ATMs in Tawa . All are located on the Main Road within the event area. Some retailers and stallholders may be happy to provide a cash-out facility. There is no event cash-out facility.

Bus Route

Bus Route 60 travels between Johnsonville and Porirua through Tawa. On the day of the event, a temporary bus stop will be set up in Oxford Street opposite New World Tawa. This will replace the regular Bus Stop on the Main Road which is affected by the road closure. Train Service

Lost Property and Children

Lost property and children can be located at the Event Information Caravan – which will be located on the corner of the Main Road and Essex Street.

Is this event accessible?

Yes, the event is held on the Main Road. Accessible parks will be available nearby.

Dog Friendly

Mexted Motors Spring into Tawa is a dog friendly event – as long as they are on a leash and are not aggressive. Please ensure that your dog is well controlled as there are lots of people including children at the event.

Mexted Motors Spring into Tawa is FREE to enter and enjoy

In addition, we have a number of rides and activities in the Children’s area which are also FREE.

Reducing our waste

We are focused on reducing the amount of waste that Mexted Motors Spring into Tawa generates – and we need your help!  Bring along your reusable shopping bags for your purchases, your keep cup and straw for your drink and your drink bottle for water. There will be water bottle filling stations at the event.

Since 2020, when we embarked on this journey, we have increased our waste diversion from 64% to 94%!

Road Closure

In 2024, the closure zone is the Main Road from the roundabout on the intersection of the Main Road/ Cambridge Street/ Lyndhurst Road to the roundabout on the intersection of the Main Road and Surrey Street.

The road will be closure will be in place from 5am - 6pm on Saturday 19 October.

The Tawa Community Board has approved this  road closure request.

The committee has engaged Hanging Around to provide traffic management services.

A sign-posted detour will operate directing traffic around the closure zone.

There are other alternative routes through Tawa that can be used including:

  • Linden Ave – Hinau Street – Duncan Street – Tawa Terrace

  • Lyndhurst Street – Chester Road – Hampton Hill Road – Victory Crescent

Cars will need to be removed from within the closure zone and lower Lincoln Avenue by 5am on Saturday 19 October. Residents of Rewa Terrace will not be able to use their vehicles to leave their homes from 5am to 6pm on Saturday 19 October.

Once the road is closed at 5am, no resident or business vehicles will be permitted to drive through the closure zone. This includes newspaper and mail delivery, or businesses wanting to deliver items to their premises. No resident, supplier, or business vehicles will be able to access any part of the road closure area until 6pm.

Emergency vehicles will be given access to the closure area and Rewa Terrace if required.
